Banana peel fertilizer
Save those banana peels!
Banana’s are such an amazing source of potassium and nutrients and can be used in different ways as a fertilizer for your plants babies!
Video above is the way I always do it - with just banana peels and water but some people bury banana peels in their garden soil, some dehydrate their banana peels and blend it into a powder to sprinkle on their soil, etc!
For this fertilizer you want to dilute it with water about 3:1 or 5:1! Not all plants need to be fertilized so keep an eye on your plants and if they’re showing signs of needing to be fertilized then give them some but don’t over fertilize! They don’t need a lot!
Some signs your plants are getting TOO much fertilizer:
- slow growth or no growth at all
- rotting roots (turning brown/black)
- browning of leaves
- wilting or yellowing of the lower plant leaves
- crusting of fertilizer on surface
- leaf drop
Some signs your plants need to be fertilized:
- tall plants with weak or laggy stems
- slow to mature
- lesions on the roots & stem
- pale or yellow discolouration on leaves
- slow/reduced root growth
