Rendering Beef Fat Into Tallow

Beef tallow is so versatile! Mainly used as a cooking oil in replacement of those nasty seed oils like canola, sunflower oil, etc! It can be used in replace of butter in some recipes & also can be used as a lotion/balm! It’s very nourishing for the skin & what I’ve actually started using as my face lotion!

We butchered our beef cow a month ago now & got a lot of fat to tender down. The butcher even gave me some extra bags of fat as a lot of people don’t want theirs.

I love using as much of the animal from nose to tail as possible! Whatever we don’t use, our dogs get as dog food so it’s still not going to waste. Rendering down fat is an awesome way to also save money on your grocery bills by replacing your cooking oils. Your health will thank you too!

Turning your beef fat into tallow is really easy! Add your beef fat (no meat) to a pot or crockpot & cook on a lower heat for 4-5 hours. Making sure you don’t burn the fat. Stirring ever 30 mins or so. You’ll start to see the liquid from rendering it down & that’s what you want. The liquid gold. Then strain it into jars & store in the fridge. If you’ll be using it quickly for cooking then you can just leave it on the counter.
